Common Questions & Answers

Why choose Delta?

There are a ton of reasons to choose Delta. Here's a few:

  • With the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), your child can earn the first two years of her bachelor’s degree for less than half the cost of a university. She’ll get the same great education at Delta and, when she’s ready to transfer, her credits will transfer seamlessly. Up to 30 credits are guaranteed to any public institution in Michigan.
  • At Delta, students get small classes (student to professor ratio: 16 to 1), professors who see their potential and resources to help them succeed. Delta professors are here to teach. And, they’re really good at it.
  • The best part about Delta is that our students leave prepared for their next phase of life, no matter what that is.
College is so expensive. What makes Delta different?

If you or your child are worried about paying for college, Delta is a great choice. The cost to attend Delta is less than half the cost of a university. Last year, Delta students were awarded $34 million in financial aid with more than $870,00 in local scholarships. That’s a lot of money available to students!

And, if he needs a tuition payment plan to make it easier, that’s available, too.

How do I pay for my child's tuition?

If you need to make a payment, contact the Cashier's office at 989-686-9394. You can mail payments to Delta College Cashier's Office, 1961 Delta Road, University Center, MI 48710.

We accept cash, check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard and Discover). Make checks payable to Delta College and include student's name, student ID number and phone number.

My daughter doesn't really know what she wants her career to be?

No problem. We know it’s not always easy to figure out a career path.

Delta College has all kinds of tools to help students figure it out. Tools like Career Coach, MOIS (Michigan Occupational Information System), co-op opportunities and dedicated career counselors ready to help. And, at $127 per contact hour, students can afford to take a class or two to explore what's out there and what they might be really good at.

Are there advantages in going to a community college like Delta?

The biggest advantage is simply dollars and cents, but that's not the only reason.

Out of 1,200 community colleges in the country, Delta is ranked one of the top 150, known for innovation, community leadership, teaching excellence and personal attention to help each student reach his or her academic and career goals.

There are a lot of other great reasons, too. Like Delta's commitment to sustainability that incorporates earth-friendly practices into every aspect of the college, even the curriculum. Service learning is part of the curriculum, too. Delta students do good works and make a difference while earning college credit. And you wouldn't believe how giving Delta students are – 105,000 community volunteer hours were given last year!

I'm worried my son will struggle with some of the required classes. What can he do?
Delta is known for caring about each student, every step of the way.  That means in the classroom, too. Professors know their students names, are accessible and want to help.

Plus, Delta has free tutoring and a writing center so every student can get the help they need when they need it.

Will my son be behind his classmates if he chooses to transfer?

The Michigan Transfer Agreement makes transferring really easy. Thirty credits are guaranteed to transfer to the other colleges and universities in Michigan.

Delta also has 145 pre-approved transfer agreements with colleges and universities. When you follow a transfer agreement up to 120 credits transfer seamlessly.

Statistically speaking, students have a better chance of completing their bachelor's degree if they already have one degree under their belt – their associate's.

SUCCESS TIP:  Encourage your student

Be an encouragement to your student as they embark on their new ventures into college life.

Help them take healthy chances like trying out a new club or taking a class they wouldn't otherwise take. This will help them decide what path is right for them and help them get involved in campus life.
