TurnItIn
TurnItIn is an originality checker that detects plagarism and guides students to higher quality academic writing.
During activity creation in D2L, there is an option to Manage TurnItIn under Evaluation and Feedback. See the TurnItIn Instructor Guide to get started.

- Start by creating a new assignment.
- Select the Evaluation & Feedback Tab
- Select the Manage Turnitin link from the Turnitin integration section.
- Ensure the Enable GradeMark for this folder and Enable Originality Check options are checked.
- Under Transfer, select Automatically sync grades as Draft in Brightspace.
- Under Display, select Allow learners to see Turnitin similarity scores in their Dropbox folder.
- To customize the assignment further and find Turnitin's optional settings, select the More Options in Turnitin button.

- From your list of assignments, select the relevant assignment.
- Use the instructor feedback indicator icon to identify the students you've provided feedback to.
- Use the checkboxes to select the individual students for whom you'd like to publish feedback. Alternatively, use the top checkbox to select all.
- Select Publish Feedback to publish scores and feedback within GradeMark® to the selected students.
To find the similarity report, start by opening the assignment folder. For any student, select the percentage from the Report column to open Turnitin Feedback Studio.
Turnitin does not check for plagiarism in a piece of work. Instead, we will check a student's work against our database, and if there are instances where a student's writing is similar to, or matches against, one of our sources, we will flag this for you to review. Our database includes billions of web pages: both current and archived content from the internet, a repository of works students have submitted to Turnitin in the past, and a collection of documents, which comprises thousands of periodicals, journals, and publications.
It is perfectly natural for an assignment to match against some of our database. If a student has used quotes and has referenced correctly, there will be instances where we will find a match. The similarity score simply highlights any potential problem areas in a student's paper. Instructors can use this as a tool within their review process to make their own determination if any academic misconduct has occurred.
