Perkins

The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) was signed into law by President Trump on July 31, 2018. This bipartisan measure reauthorized the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV) and continued Congress’ commitment in providing nearly $1.3 billion annually for career and technical education (CTE) programs for our nation’s youth and adults.

Perkins V represents an important opportunity to expand opportunities for every student to explore, choose, and follow career and technical education programs of study and career pathways to earn credentials of value. As States and local communities embark on the development of new plans for CTE, the Department hopes that the videos, resources, links, and media found below and throughout this Website can be useful tools for States and local recipients in "rethinking CTE" and arriving at bold goals under the newly-authorized Perkins V statute.

Strategic initiatives

The CTE Special Populations Engagement and Success Coordinator is a initiative of the college towards supporting students who are identified as Special Populations students or Occupational Students. This coordinator works with students in alignment of educational and career goals through linking students to appropriate resources. This coordinator also supports college efforts toward remaining in  alignment and within compliance of Perkins guidelines. 

Funding opportunities

Each year under Perkins V, Congress appropriates roughly $1.1 billion in State formula grants and over $26 million dollars in competitive discretionary grants specified in the law for the improvement of career and technical education programs across the nation.

Perkins funding is available for state approved programs. List of state approved programs coming soon.

To be considered for Perkins funding, please verify program is state approved then submit the Perkins Program Approval form: Coming Soon . By submitting this project request, the dean will have an understanding of the type of funding that is requested and how that activity will be used to support one or more of the core indicators. Submission of this form does not mean your request will be funded. Please email academicservices@delta.edu if you have any questions. 

Upon completion of your Perkins supported activity,  complete the Perkins professional development grant outcome form detailing how you have or will be applying the information you obtained in your training, conference, etc. to make improvements in your courses.
