What is an internship?
Internships provide students with temporary real-world experience where they can apply their academic knowledge and work with professionals in various industries while exploring their career goals and expanding their employability skills.
- Student explores a career while building technical and professional skills.
- Student works 12-15 hours of work per week; up to 40 hours during the summer based on your business needs.
- Internships last 10-12 weeks during a single semester.
What is a co-op?
A co-operative education position (co-op) allows students to gain substantial work experience while pursuing their degree. These programs are typically longer than internships, allowing students to delve deeper into their field of study and gain a more comprehensive understanding of the industry.
- Student uses position to expand their understanding of the industry and establish business relationships, while gaining technical and professional skills.
- Co-ops last 1-2 semesters (4-8 month commitment), typically beginning in fall and continuing thoughout the academic year.
- Average of 18-20 hours per week; up to 40 hours during the summer based on your business need.
What is the Federal Work Study Program?
Federal Work Study is ideal for civic organizations. This program connects students who have been awarded financial aid for Federal Work Study with qualified employers. The employer would pay approximately 25% of the wages for the student, with the program contributing the balance. Delta College would recommend student placement for available positions with reduced expese to the organization for the role.
- Student gives back to their community while learning professional skills.
- Federal Work Study is a minimum of one semester placement (16 weeks per semester). Business can renew for multiple semesters and maintain the same student if they are eligible.
- Student works 10-20 hours of work per week; pending their financial award amount.
