This Firearm Instructor Course will impart upon the participants sufficient knowledge and background in the proper techniques of handling and utilizing the semi-automatic pistol to be able to perform as a range instructor to provide competent training to other officers. Prerequisite: Attendees will be able to satisfactorily perform the MCOLES Basic Course of Fire on the first day.

Below 100: April 16, 2025

The Below 100 Program is designed to drastically reduce law enforcement Line of Duty Deaths (LODD's). The Below 100 Program specifically addresses the operational areas of law enforcement that contribute to the greatest number of LODD's, but are in large part preventable. The Below 100 Program is an effort to instill a culture of safety in law enforcement agencies that will progressively reduce national LODD's to Below 100 annually.

COLT Armorers Course: May 20-22, 2025

The COLT M4/M16 Armorers course includes the M16 family of weapons, and all its variant including the M4, the AR15 and 9mmSMG. Course length is 24 class hours over 3 days with no shooting included. Day one (1) includes history, nomenclature, theory of operation, complete field disassembly, and parts identification. Day two (2) includes the removal and installation of barrel and front sight assembly, design changes and parts interchangeability, head space and firing pin protrusion testing, written test, practical exam and graduation.
Graduation Requirements: Students must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: disassembly, reassembly, identification of mechanical deficiencies and corrective actions. The student must also attain a score of 70% or better on the Armorer Written Test.
Certification: 3 year Colt Law Enforcement Rifle/Carbine/SMG Armorer
Resources: Colt will provide all necessary tools and firearms to conduct training

Corrections Training Officer: April 21-25, 2025

The Corrections Training and Evaluating Program is an extension of the corrections selection process. It combines pre-field training with objective evaluations to ensure that the standards of a competent corrections officer are met. This is a 40-hour course designed for experienced corrections officers to learn the "new job/task" of becoming a Corrections Training Officer - CTO. The program will emphasize the CTO's role in Coaching, training, and objectively evaluating the recruit officer as they "earn" the right to wear your department's uniform. Each student will receive a Corrections Training and Evaluation manual for this course.
Course Objectives: CTO's responsibilities as a teacher, trainer, mentor and coach. Utilize the Standard Evaluation Guidelines. CTO Conduct/Responsibilities. Emergency Vehicle Operation Instructor Course: May 7 - 14, 2025

This 56-hour is meant to train and certify law enforcement officers to instruct defensive driving, emergency response driving and pursuit driving while addressing the legal issues related to emergency vehicle operation. Students will participate in a variety of driving skills courses, simulated pursuit scenarios and classroom lecture. The course will be taught with a combination of classroom lecture and hands-on driving at a closed driving range. The student will need to bring a pursuit rated vehicle for each day of the course. Patrol vehicle needs to be inspected and in good working condition INCLUDING TIRES for this type of training. Pre-requisites: 1: Certified Michigan Law Enforcement Officer for minimum of 3 years work experience.  2: Must have successfully completed and Emergency Vehicle Operation course within the last two years. 3: Have successfully completed a "Train the Trainer" course be certified as an instructor in another discipline or certified as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for at least on year. 4: Have attended a BELOW 100 course. NOTE: To successfully complete the Emergency Vehicle Operation Instructor Course, the student will have to 'Student Teach' one 8-hour Emergency Vehicle Operation while shadowed by the Master Instructor.

Emergency Vehicle Operation Pursuit Rated Vehicles: May 15, 19, 21, ORJune 4,  from 9am-5pm OR May 27, 30 from 12pm-8pm

This is an eight-hour course that starts with a short classroom updated session followed by the remainder of the time spent on the driving range performing "behind the wheel" exercises. This course will cover pursuit rated models of patrol vehicles, exploring the differences between front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and SUV models.
Required Equipment: One patrol vehicle for every three officers attending. Patrol vehicle must be inspected and in good working condition INCLUDING TIRES prior to attending class.

GLOCK Armorer's Course:  July 29, 2025 OR December 2, 2025

This one day class is to certify officers as GLOCK Armorers.  You will receive a 3 year Certification upon successful completion for all GLOCK model pistols, excluding the G18 Select Fire Models.
Student Prerequisites: To be eligible to take the Armorers Course you must be active/retired law enforcement or military, private security, GLOCK Stocking Dealer/Range Program EMployee or current GSSF Member.
Armorer Course Objectives: Understand and be able to explain the design features of the GLOCK Safe Action System, Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to maintain, troubleshoot and service all GLOCK pistols by passing the Practical Examination and by scoring a minimum of 80% on the written examination.

Managing Police Training:  TBD

This is a two-day course designed for law enforcement instructors and instructor supervisors, tasked with training law enforcement officers. The program's focus will be on the development and implementation of training programs, specifically scenario-based programs that utilize all force options, to best prepare their officers. Students will be taught how to design and compose their own scenarios, that include the necessary minimum components. The program will also discuss implementation of basic and complex training programs, too include but not limited to: Active Shooter Response (ASR), Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVO), and Pursuit Termination Techniques (PTT).

Mental Health First Aid For Public Safety 2025:  June 16, June 26, July 22, August 14, August 26 

Mental Health First Aid for Public Safety teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. PPCT/HFRG DT Instructor Course: January 12-16, 2026

The PPCT/HFRG Threat Pattern Recognition Use of Force (DT) Instructor Course, is the first subject control system developed through tactical, legal and medical research. Tactically, the system addresses the most common types of resistance that officers may encounter allowing the instructor to maximize training on job related techniques. Legally, the PPCT System teaches a simple use of force continuum that clarifies the appropriate force level for every level of resistance. Medical research was conducted on every PPCT technique to refine technique efficiency and to ensure the medical implications were proportional to the level of resistance.

This curriculum consists of 8 hours of instruction on how to prepare yourself for the Lateral or Promotional process. This course is a MUST for anyone who is preparing for an Oral Interview where they are seeking a lateral transfer or promotion through the ranks from, Officer up to including the position of Chief of Police. This course was designed to enhance the  instructor's development in formulations, spray patterns, physical and mental effects of chemical agents, understand the importance of preexisting medical conditions, training and liability, deployment guidelines, and the proper use of SABRE Aerosol Irritant Projectors. 
Tuesday June 3, 2025: PLUS: 0.68 Caliber Projectile & Launcher Instructor (Re)-Certification. This 1-day (8 hr) Instructor Certification program was developed for agencies to update, train and certify departmental Instructors in SABRE's 0.68 Caliber Projectiles & Launchers. This course was designed to enhance instructor's development in 0.68 caliber projectiles, payloads, launcher types, deployments considerations, physical and mental effects of 0.68 projectiles and chemical agents, understanding the importance of preexisting medical conditions, training and liability, and the proper use of SABRE 0.68 Caliber Projectiles & Launchers. We will concentrate on the technical and tactical applications of this information and instructor developmental skills.

Shaykhet Edged Weapons Defensive Tactics: TBA

This training program deals with a practical and simple way for the officer to defend against a subject with the edged weapon. The need for this training became especially clear after the events of September 11, when terrorists took over planes using box cutters, which is basically a small knife. Also, the training shows the officer how the edged weapon can be used in a self-defense situation as an emergency backup weapon when the primary weapon system is not available.

Social Media and OSINT Investigative Techniques: August 18-19, 2025

Social networking sites and cell phones have expanded cybercrimes and created new channels for sharing information that could also be utilized by law enforcement to investigate crimes and identify suspects. With OSINT, many techniques can be used to gather intelligence across the internet and social media platforms. Examples of OSINT including tracing usernames, emails, text hide software, phone number searches, OSINT dashboards, reverse images, websites, screen catch, trace and track linkage analysis, and so much more. This introductory course will review the use of cyber technology, discussing web platforms, AI and bot technology, linkage analysis, and social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Tumbir, Twitter, Google+, Telegram, Omegle, Discord, Twitch, Spotify, Diaspora (dark web), MEWE, and many others to understand and investigate cybercrime. This course is excellent for new investigators as well as seasoned investigators.
