Remote Work

The College may permit certain employee positions to work remotely on a temporary basis where appropriate to promote efficient and effective work while supporting the changing needs of our students and community. The majority of our employees will work on campus to meet the needs of our students, faculty, staff and community.

Please reference the Remote Work Procedure, for employee requests to incorporate a remote work arrangement for up to one day per week as part of a consistent work schedule. Requests to work remotely on an intermittent basis will be handled through the flexible schedule procedures.

Remote Work FAQs

Yes, based on peak department needs a “black out” period can be determined. One example is that Dr. Gavin has determined that Fall Learning Days will be in person this year. All employees are required to attend so if it is someone’s remote day they will need to come to campus.
Yes, an employee can be requested to return to campus at anytime.
The expectation is that employees working remotely should be available and ready to return within a reasonable time frame, taking into consideration their home’s proximity to campus.
Employees working remotely should be available and ready to return to campus if called upon within a reasonable time frame, working out of town would not allow for this.
This would be handled in the same way as on campus performance issues. Begin with a verbal conversation (and documentation), following progressive discipline steps.

Each department should have a process in place to ensure our students/employees/community do not see a disruption in service.

For example, provide options for your customer(s):

    • They can see another staff member that is available on campus to assist.
    • They can call the requested staff member's office phone to speak  with them over the telephone.
    • They can schedule a zoom meeting to have a virtual appointment that day.
    • They can schedule a face to face meeting with the requested individual for another day.

The college is not required to issue equipment to employees who are requesting to work from home. Employees who are requesting a remote work option must have the equipment available to be able to work as effectively at home as they would on campus (i.e. working from a cell phone does not qualify).

However, please note that at life cycle expiration a laptop can be requested for replacement of a desktop; only one computer per employee.
