Tobacco-Free Campus (Smoking Policy)
Delta College is tobacco-free. To help ensure a safe, clean learning environment we thank you for refraining from the use of tobacco products on campus. Smoking and use of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, are not permitted anywhere on Delta College's main campus or the downtown centers. This includes campus buildings, sidewalks, parking lots, building entrances, common areas and in college-owned vehicles.
Enforcement and fines
Students, employees and visitors who violate the College's tobacco-free policy will be subject to fines starting at $25. Public Safety personnel are authorized to issue citations for violations of this policy. A citation for tobacco violation is a collectible financial obligation to the College. All fines will double after 21 days if they have not been paid and may lead to additional disciplinary action in accordance to College policy. All fines not paid within the 21 days will also result in the student's grades and transcripts being placed on hold until the financial obligation has been met.
Appeal process
If you feel that you have been unjustly cited, you may appeal the citation by filing a written appeal at the Department of Public Safety in N102. The appeal must be received within 10 business days after being issued the citation or the right to appeal is forfeited.
