Delta Mentor Collective
The Delta Mentor Collective mentoring program, offered in partnership with Mentor Collective, links students with either a peer, mentor who has experienced many of the same challenges and gone on to succeed.
Delta College students who sign up for the program are paired with someone invested in their overall success. A person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges and recognize opportunities. Students will develop meaningful connections among our Delta network while also learning what to expect in school, how to approach challenges, gain career advice and valuable insights, while mentors will build their networks and develop skills to become better professionals and leaders.
How it works
Matching process
Students will be matched with a peer mentor based on common interests, background, academics, and professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to paint a holistic picture of their interests and experiences.
Time commitment
We recommend that mentors and mentees connect at least once a month. Training and resources will be available to Mentors throughout the experience. The mentorship program supports current Delta College students, but you’re more than welcome to stay connected with your match after your mentee graduates or transfers on.
Connecting with your mentor
Once you are matched, you will both decide how you want to connect via email, phone, video chat, text, and/or in-person. Meetings with your mentee are requested to occur monthly.
What do mentors and mentees discuss?
-
- How will my major impact my professional options?
- How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and socializing?
- How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
- How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?

How is a Peer Mentor Different from an Advisor or Counselor?
- Peer Mentor: A peer mentor is a student who has been trained, through Mentor Collective, to support other students. They offer a relatable perspective, sharing their own experiences and strategies for college success. Peer mentors provide guidance, helping mentees with day-to-day college life, time management, and other college situations. They act as a friend and role model, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
- Student Success Advisor: A Student Success Advisor is a professional staff member who assists students with academic planning and course selection. Advisors ensure that students meet their program requirements, stay on track for graduation, and understand college policies. They provide official guidance on academic matters, helping students make informed decisions about their educational pathways.
- Student Success Counselor: A Student Success Counselor is a trained professional who provides mental health and personal counseling services. Counselors help students address emotional, psychological, and personal issues that may impact their academic performance and overall well-being. They offer confidential support, crisis intervention, and referrals to additional resources when needed.
